ABOUT STORY CLOTH
HI. I'M MELODY.
I'm the founder and designer of Story Cloth Napery.
My history with linen table napkins is long.
There was always linen on the table.
NAPKINS FOLDED AS LOTUS FLOWERS. PEAS PODDED. PRESENTS TAMPERED WITH.
At Christmas time in my maternal grandmother's home, there was always a flurry of activity in the tiny country kitchen.
Vintage multicoloured festive baubles were scattered along antique tables, which were pushed together and surrounded by beautiful (but sometimes rickety) chairs, ready for the feast.
Beyond podding a lot of peas, my job was to fold the table napkins into lotus flowers. I loved this job.
I used the 'good napkins' for these special events. At other times, on more casual visits, we'd use the "lunch service" napkins. The plainer ones.
But there were always napkins on the table.
AN INHERITANCE
I still have my grandmother's napkins. They serve as a special reminder of the power of women, the sharing of stories, the joy of food and the making of memories.
My mum also used linen table napkins for most of her life. She shared the same love for an adorned table, but a slightly more contemporary version than gran's.
Remember those really thick mexican glass wine goblets that were super difficult to drink from. Yeah. Mum loved those too.
NOT FOR THE GOOD ROOM
Use them unironed, or ironed.
Use them matching or clashing.
Use them around tables, on floors, in the back of cars, on picnics or solo at 2am when you're sleepless and eating toast in bed.
